Welcome to the Planet (12:30 pm) with Lisa DeCrescente
Lisa DeCrescente has been a caterer, restaurant & club owner, and Executive Chef in New York City. Becoming a vegan in 2000, her relationship to animal rights began when she volunteered with several rescue organizations locating forever homes for animals in need. In 2001, she helped launch Humane USA in NYC, a political action committee for animal rights. In addition to working with numerous restaurants on the inclusion of vegan options, she has “veganized” over 200 recipes for her clients’ menus. With over 30 years of event production experience under her belt and in person events making a comeback, she hopes Planet Bethesda is just the beginning.
Dr. Vanita Rahman (12:50 pm)
Vanita Rahman, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician, certified nutritionist, and personal trainer. She is a native of the Washington, D.C. area and has authored several books on plant-based nutrition. Prior to joining the Barnard Medical Center, Dr. Rahman spent more than 15 years practicing internal medicine with Kaiser Permanente, where she launched a very popular and successful plant-based weight loss program. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, exercising, and experimenting with plant-based recipes.
Congressman Jamie Raskin (1:00 pm)
Congressman Jamie Raskin proudly represents Maryland’s 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district includes Montgomery (home to Bethesda), Carroll, and Frederick Counties. Raskin was sworn into his third Term at the start of the 117th Congress on January 3, 2021. Raskin is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School. Raskin continues to support a plant-based diet, which he has referred to as “aligning my morals with my menu,” and encourages everyone to make kinder, greener, and healthier food choices for the planet and the animals.
Seth Goldman (1:10 pm)
Seth Goldman is the co-founder of Eat the Change®, a brand that empowers consumers to make dietary choices aligned with their concerns around climate and health. Eat the Change® recently launched a line of organic mushroom jerky as part of this mission. Seth is also the Co-founder of PLNT Burger, a plant-based quick serve restaurant that offers delicious burgers, sandwiches, fries and soft-serve.

Eric C Lindstrom (2:50 pm)
In his role as Executive Director, Lindstrom manages Farm Animal Rights Movement’s (FARM) programs, personnel, budget, and operations and is leading the nation’s first animal rights group into the future; through innovative new programming that builds on the legacy programs started in the late 70’s. Lindstrom began his career in the movement as the Program Director for FARM (2016-2018) and later served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for Animal Outlook (formerly Compassion Over Killing). Lindstrom penned two best-selling books on veganism, The Skeptical Vegan and Raising Vegan Kids (Skyhorse Publishing) and resides in Ithaca, New York.
Dr. Milton Mills (3:00 pm)
Dr. Milton R. Mills graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine and completed residency training at UCSF-Fresno and Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. In the past, Dr. Mills volunteered as Associate Director of Preventive Medicine for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). Dr. Mills practices outpatient clinic-based medicine in under-served communities in Washington D. C., and Northern Virginia and also works as a Critical Care physician with United Medical Center in Washington DC. He has lectured and given research seminars across the United States and in Mexico, Canada, Ireland, and the UK on a variety of preventive health topics, including the negative impacts of meat and dairy consumption on human health, nutrition and HIV/AIDS, nutrition and cancer, and the dietary needs of various ethnic groups.
Saurabh Dalal (3:15 pm)
Saurabh is a lifelong vegetarian, ethical vegan since 1991, and volunteers as a board member/advisor to numerous vegan-oriented organizations, (including past board member of FARM) and has been an active board member of the Veg Society of DC for many years. Saurabh works as an engineering consultant, holds graduate degrees in engineering and physics, and explores ways of integrating sound science into related activism. Saurabh helped bring Veg Society of DC to the Planet Bethesda event.
Jane DeMarines (3:20 pm)
A 20-year vegetarian/vegan, and award winning executive, fundraiser, advocate, builder of partnerships and memberships, Jane is dedicated to advancing causes related to environmental conservation and green community development. As founding Executive Director of National Alliance of Community Economic Development Associations (NACEDA), Ms. DeMarines rewrote legislation and worked with key U.S. House and Senate staff to advance a “Green Policy” agenda. She has eight years of federal agency experience, including with the Dept of Homeland Security, addressing climate change-related disasters. A resident of the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. she developed a Green Party for the Citizens’ Association with an environmental platform, co-managed a conservation coalition focused on urban forest preservation, testified on tree legislation at Montgomery County Council hearing certified by “Casey Trees,” and participated in Potomac River conservancy through two coalitions. She continues her commitment to improving Planet Earth at SEE.
Dr. Lakshman Mulpuri (4:15 pm)
Dr. Lakshman (Lucky) Mulpuri graduated from the University of Michigan and Wayne State University’s School of Medicine. He has served as managing director for the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Auntie Na’s Village in Detroit, a former President of the Plant-Based Nutrition Group (PBNG), and the Chief Executive of PlantsNourish. He has been intimately involved in policy initiatives spanning the local, state and federal levels, particularly focused on communities of color. He also developed and implemented the first-ever mandatory plant-based medical curriculum for all 300 1st year medical students at Wayne State. Dr. Mulpuri’s work has been featured in VegNews, Forks Over Knives, numerous newspapers as well as on television stations. As a community activist and doctor, he is a strong proponent of the benefits of whole-food plant-based nutrition for the community and the patients he serves.
